 O continente africano é a potência do futuro, a esperança e o fracasso da humanidade, que se impões como um vício e obriga quem o visita a voltar uma e outra vez, e mesmo quem vá para lugares quase ignorados e desconhecidos, o perigo não é a violência, mas a burocracia. A África é dura e difícil, mas apaixonante. O sonho do século XXI, de ser o século africano é poderoso e emocionante, e está a converter-se numa realidade. A realização da primeira “Cimeira entre os Estados Unidos e a África”, e os seus líderes, de 4 a 6 de Agosto de 2014, em Washington, foi o momento propício para uma reflexão, e considerar os fundamentos e limites do progresso do continente.

O sonho americano ou, em inglês, “The American Dream”, também conhecido como o sonho americano na Casa Branca, pode ser definido, em geral, como a igualdade de oportunidades e liberdade, facultado a todos os habitantes dos Estados Unidos para atingirem os seus objectivos na vida, por meio de esforço e determinação. A Estátua da Liberdade foi para muitos imigrantes a primeira visão que tiveram quando chegaram aos Estados Unidos, significativa da liberdade. A estátua é um símbolo dos Estados Unidos e do sonho americano. Todos os anos, mais de um milhão e meio de novos imigrantes, documentados ou indocumentados chegam aos Estados Unidos.
