Ainda que nunca tenha sido articulada em termos tão rígidos, um dos objectivos principais dos Tratados de Vestefália, que foram assinados para pôr termo à Guerra dos Trinta Anos, em 1648, tinham como ideia basilar a de "nunca mais vir a acontecer". Os termos dos tratados procuraram, em última análise, assegurar que o mundo pudesse estar para sempre livre do envolvimento de forças externas em conflitos internos, que tornaram a Guerra dos Trinta Anos tão prolongada e catastrófica. As numerosas intervenções estrangeiras na actual Guerra Civil Síria demonstraram, incluindo mais recentemente, os ataques de mísseis de cruzeiro pelos Estados Unidos, em 6 de Abril de 2017, que esta visão está a tornar-se cada vez mais ruinosa.

Os seres humanos devem analisar o efeito que têm sobre o clima da Terra, e como as suas escolhas terão um impacto sobre as gerações futuras. Muitos anos antes, Mark Twain, disse que "O mundo todo fala sobre o clima, mas ninguém faz nada", o que não é mais verdade.

The right to health does not mean that we have the right to be healthy. The right to health is defined by UN expert Paul Hunt as: a right to an effective and integrated health system, encompassing health care and the underlying determinants of health, which is responsive to national and local priorities, and accessible to all. He uses the accessibility prism to point out that the right to health means that health care: must be accessible to all, not just the wealthy, but also those living in poverty; not just majority ethnic groups, but minorities and indigenous peoples, too; not just those living in urban areas, but also remote villagers; not just men, but also women.
