Knowledge is not power

power

Think you know a lot? Think again. It is commonly accepted in Western society that knowledge is power. Not necessarily so! Knowledge is power only if you use it - and use it properly. Put another way, don 't tell the world about how much you know if you aren't going to use your knowledge for anything but talk. The Buddhists have a proverb: "To know and not to do is not yet to know."

Needless to say, knowledge and wisdom are useless if you don't use them to accomplish something worthwhile.

 

If you are to make an important difference in this world, you must put your blue-chip knowledge in synch with your deepest values and beliefs and pursue what you truly want out of life.

Fact is, action speaks louder than words - even a little bit of action is worth much more than a whole lot of talking.

Remember the old expression, "Talk is cheap because supply always exceeds demand."

Great ideas and knowledge are the stuff from which great success is made.

Nonetheless, great ideas and knowledge by themselves won't make a person successful.

You can learn a lot by watching others, but there comes a time when you have to do something far your own satisfaction.

Sitting back and watching the world go by is no way to achieve satisfaction.

On the contrary, it's a highly effective way to achieve dissatisfaction - and who needs dissatisfaction?

You must walk the talk if you are to make your mark on the world.

 "All know the way," observed sixth-century Indian Buddhist monk Bodhidharma. "Few actually walk it."

Clearly, words have to be put into action.

You will be disgusted with yourself if you keep talking about it, but never quite get around to doing it.

Your ideas can change the world, but only when accompanied with action.

I believe that it was British mathematician and philosopher Alfred North Whitehead who once said that ideas won’t keep - that something must be done about them.

An acquaintance of mine has a million ideas and seems happiest when he's expounding on one of them.

He never gets around to trying out any, however, because he is always generating more.

The lesson here is that the successful implementation of one good idea is worth more than a million ideas not acted upon.

Your great idea will never see the light of day if you aren't motivated enough to follow through with your insights and aspirations.

Intuition, creativity, and will power are your greatest assets.

Your "great" idea is just an  idea. And that's where it will remain - an idea - if you just talk about it.

The idea will become a great one when you make something out of it.

You have to spend less time thinking and more time doing.

The thing that separates successful people from the less successful ones is that the successful people are always taking part in interesting journeys.

They are doers.

The less successful are not doers.

They may be interested in destinations, but resist making the necessary journeys.

Without journeys come no new destinations.

This applies to the best-selling book that you are capable of writing – or any other project that you are capable of completing, but haven't got around to doing.

Begin today and see where it takes you.

"The distance doesn't matter," French literary patron Madame Marquise du Deffand pointed out. "Only the first step is difficult."

Suffice it to say that you only truly know something valuable if you live it.

Now is the time to undertake that project that may change your life.

Make it different, make it challenging, and make it radical.

Above all, make sure you undertake it.

Do it badly - but at least do it!

 

The world needs more people who get things done - instead of just talking about how to get things done.
